Software Developer Apprentice

As a Software Developer Apprentice, you’ll work on an agile team with other passionate, driven and talented people to create innovative solutions for our clients. Our environment and culture fosters growth and presents exciting opportunities to hone your skills in business and problem-solving. You will be responsible for software from idea to code to test to operations, whilst working towards your Level 4 Software Engineering qualification.

A typical day:

  • Assist in the collection and documentation of user requirements as well as the development of user stories and estimates
  • Design, develop and unit test applications in accordance with established standards
  • Collaborate with experienced designers, strategists, client partners and clients on the product
  • Participate in peer reviews of solution designs and related code
  • Package and support the deployment of releases
  • Analyze and resolve technical and application problems
  • Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on-time and on-budget
  • Prepare reports, manuals and other documentation on the status, operation and maintenance of software

You must have:

  • Five GCSE grades C - A* (4-9) or equivalent, including English and Maths
  • Level 3 qualification (A level, BTEC or equivalent)
  • Three months' prior coding experience

Training provided:
1. Training on the 18 month Standard Level 4 Software Developer (SWE4) apprenticeship.
2. Being a WhiteHat apprentice means access to awesome social events, sports teams, insight/career days with other apprentices to grow your network, as well as your own personal Coach who will guide you through the qualification to help you achieve your full potential.
3. As part of your WhiteHat Apprenticeship, you will have access to our Future Leaders Foundation modules to develop 6 key competencies, underpinned by well-being, self-awareness, motivation, conscientiousness, effectiveness and grit.

Future prospects:
After your Software Engineering apprenticeship, you can progress into a junior developer role (this includes web and app development). You'll have the skills to continue growing within a tech team, and have enough knowledge/experience to pick up new languages with ease. Software Engineering Level 4 will also provide a good foundation for transitioning into data science.
