Who is CodeYourFuture?

CodeYourFuture (CYF) is a non-profit that offers a free, intensive technical training program to equip you with the Engineering skills needed to meet current tech workforce demands.

CYF trainees develop a mix of technical depth, professional skills, and resilience for the workplace, with many working at companies such as Slack, Capgemini, Centrica, and the BBC.

The CYF program prepares you for most Software Engineering roles. For those looking to specialise, we offer optional tracks across tech and software roles, including Business Analyst, Distributed Systems, Cloud Computing/DevOps, and Java.

All of CodeYourFuture's courses are free and part-time. CYF can support you with additional resources such as childcare, transportation, internet access, and laptops during your studies.

Tech professionals provide one-on-one support to everyone in CYF courses, supporting you from your first weeks until you secure a job in tech—and beyond.

The CYF journey:

Phase 1: Intro to Digital (the application)
This is your required first step. The focus is on establishing a foundational layer for structured interactions with computers and on demonstrating your interest in tech. Key Topics include HTML, CSS, and data analysis. We expect Codebar participants to complete this 20-40 hour course within a few dedicated days.

Phase 2: Intro to Programming & Software Engineering Curriculum
You progress to the programming pathway with a 1-day-a-week workshop and weekly sprints:
  • Fundamentals: Master programming concepts, including variables, functions, control flow, asynchronous programming, DOM manipulation. We emphasise writing clean, maintainable code and ensure you can approach and convert programs between languages.
  • Develop an engineering mindset: Learn to design multi-component systems, consider API design trade-offs, and end-user needs. We cover performance considerations, including algorithmic efficiency and the reality of debugging and extending existing codebases.
  • Professional Tooling: You'll master Git and GitHub (including branching strategies and collaborative workflows), command-line skills, package management (npm/pip), and testing frameworks like Jest.
  • Data Handling: Develop essential data skills, including SQL for collecting, validating, and manipulating data, and implementing robust data validation strategies.

This is a virtual event.
