Join us for this lunchtime panel with Amazon to discuss different pathways into science and tech.
On the panel we will be speaking with:
- Gordon Lee – Software Dev Engineer, Devices - Gordon is a software development engineer specialising in imaging and computer vision with the Amazon Lab126 camera team. He designed and developed a mobile glasses-free 3D display for his PhD research. His interests include outreach to students, illustrating Wikipedia and data visualisation
- Princess Samadharmam – Software Dev Engineer, Devices - Princess has been a software engineer since 2004 and thinks the name she carries has made her the person she is – a self motivated, enthusiastic and energetic person who loves to be engaged all the
time with some productive tasks. She loves coding, and problem solving is her passion. Perseverance is her watchword.
- Beth Holmes – Principal Ontologist, Alexa - Beth acts as Principal Knowledge Engineer on Alexa. Earlier she worked as a mathematician in
academia, then did various management roles related to Alexa question-answering. As an autistic woman, she is keen to improve diversity and leads career-development initiatives for Amazon Women in Engineering.
- Raluca Diaconu – Applied Scientists, AWS - Raluca is an Applied Scientist working on improving S3’s performance. She identifies sources of
latency, measures their impact, works with teams to find solutions, and communicates decision making data to C-level leadership. She has 10 years of experience in designing, implementing, and analyzing large scale distributed systems both cloud and peer-to-peer. Her past academic research has led to building interactive applications using AR, VR, or IoT devices which have been showcased at consumer events. These days she is excited about measuring and improving large scale complex systems using diverse data sources.
- Saranya Govindan – Applied Science Manager, Alexa - Saranya is an Applied Science Manager in Amazon, managing a team of machine learning scientists and software engineers in Alexa AI organisation. Her focus is to make Alexa more knowledgeable through state-of-the-art research and innovation. Prior to joining Amazon, Saranya has experience working in varied industries from Financial Services to Retail and led cross functional science teams over the past 15 years.
