Speakers
Samir Talwar, "Automated Testing: move fast without breaking things"

Writing software is possibly one of the fastest ways to make a huge difference in people’s lives. We can make stuff and ship it to hundreds or thousands of people in days, or sometimes even hours. However, what was a quick turnaround at first quickly becomes a mess of misused, under-designed and over-promised features, all sitting on top of a big mound of technical debt.

Automated tests aren’t a magical silver bullet that will solve your problems for you, but they will give you the tools to help you solve them yourself. In this talk, I’ll cover the basics of automated testing and how it can help you redesign your software as it grows, document it and avoid bugs, allowing you to keep moving fast in the face of change.

Nadia Odunayo, “The Guest: A Guide To Code Hospitality”

You were living alone in the town of Ruby-on-Rails until you decided to open up your spare room to guests. Now your first visitor has booked in. Her arrival is imminent.

How do you prepare? How can you make sure she has a great visit?

Let’s explore the art of code hospitality — building codebases that respect your teammates and provide for their needs. By writing hospitable code, we can facilitate team productivity and help new members quickly feel at home.
