Agenda

Please join us for the November edition of codebar Monthlies!

We'll have food and drinks as you turn up. There are breaks between talks. We aim to finish around 20:30. Then optionally can come join us at a pub after to chat.

Long talks 🗣

Kara de la Marck & Inês Coelho: "RGSoC: Scholarship Programme that aims to foster diversity in open source!"

The talk will contain information about the RGSoC programme, which is highly relevant to our students (who are prime candidates for the grant programme).

Also, will speak on about experience being part of the programme this summer and being hosted at Pivotal. (It was incredible)

Danielle Johnstone & Caroline Pelletier: "How can we make education empowering?"

A review of research on codebar London. It will explain how codebar's practices resemble models for empowering and inclusive learning theorised by educationists and give insight into how educational experiences can be designed to empower.

Short talks ⚡️

Dmitri Grabov: "How much do junior developers earn and why it's the wrong question"

Starting salary is usually a misleading metric for junior developers. In this talk Dmitri will explain why that is and what job seekers should look for in their first role instead.

Jessica Jones: "Bootcamps, babies, and beyond : Things I wish I’d known at the start of my coding journey"

I went from 'what is coding?' to getting a job as a developer in 8 months. The purpose of this talk is to share some of the things I learnt on this brutal journey, in the hope that if you're currently embarking on a similar path, you will have a reduced pain factor :)
